Zheng Qinwen wins the China Open as a wild card
Zheng beat fourth seed Mirra Andreeva 7-5, 6-4 in Beijing for her first WTA 1000 title, and became the first Chinese woman to win the event.
Qinwen Zheng won the 2026 China Open in Beijing on Sunday 11 October, beating fourth seed Mirra Andreeva 7-5, 6-4 in the final.
Zheng entered the tournament as a wild card, ranked No. 54 in the world and unseeded. It was her sixth WTA Tour title, her first at WTA 1000 level and her first since Tokyo in 2024. She is the first Chinese woman to win the China Open WTA 1000 title, and the first wild card to win it.
A long road to the title
Zheng dropped four sets and 78 games over seven matches, the most games conceded on the way to a WTA 1000 title since that format began in 1990. The win should take her back into the top 30 in the rankings next week, after she had slipped to No. 160 earlier in the season.
Defending champion Amanda Anisimova withdrew before the tournament with a wrist injury. Zheng is the eighth different WTA 1000 champion of 2026.
Zheng's big wins
Zheng won the Olympic singles gold medal at Paris 2024 and reached the 2024 Australian Open final, where she lost to Aryna Sabalenka.
